I posted a thread about my 12x16 sugar shack a few months ago. http://mapletrader.com/community/showthread.php?14243-Got-My-Shack-Built-12x16-Timber-Frame/page2

Thought I'd post up some pics of the work on the shack since then. I added a lean-to for my tractor on one side and 1x10 shiplap pine. Got the windows framed out and the cupola flashed and roofed.

The next step is to add a lean-to on the other side....this will be a timber frame lean-to used as a deck and and wood storage...and get a roof on it!

Thanks for letting me share.

Got some good work done in the last month or so. A mild November and December really helped. As you can see I got the roof on and I have the timber frame porch mostly up. Just got to add the rafters, purlins, and metal and the main structure will be done. Not sure how much more I'll be able to count on favorable weather though....it's bound to turn ugly soon.

Check out this joint...it's called a "Stop Splayed Scarf with Wedges." It's a joint I used to join two timbers together to get the 16' top plate I needed on my porch. Fun to cut! As you can see....when your drive the wedges through the two beams, it spreads the beams against each other and locks them in place. Amazing, old fashioned, and just as solid and strong as any metal fastener!

Some beautiful work. Dabbled on a couple of different timber frame projects and dream of building my own TF home. Did you design the frame yourself? Looks great.

Beautiful little building. I'm cutting the first timbers for a 14x34 building that we'll use next season. Tell us about the walls...I see one layer of boarding. What comes after that? Tyvek? Siding? Will you put any kind of finish on the interior planking or timbers? How about the roof, will the roofing be exposed on the inside? Any of your thoughts might be helpful to those who want to build.
