I have a brand new set-up in the woods for the up-coming season. I was wondering what spout people are using. I plan on using spouts only one year and then changing everything over to CVs after that. I was told that the clear straight seasonal are good. I am wondering what one does when a straight spout pop's out after a deep freeze? You can't pound it back in without taking the 5/16 tubing off first. What are my options and what works best for everyone else? Thanks.

If you are going to go to CV's , do it now use stubby spouts and get the cv's this year.

I thought Dr. Tim said there would be little benefits in using the CVs with brand new tubing. My understanding is the CVs work best on used tubing. Would the CVs give me a few more weeks of sap even with a brand new set-up? Thanks

1. I perfer the straight clear to the 90* ones for my gravity tubing and never had one come loose after a freeze. are you getting them to seat correctly and make sure your holes aren't oval. but you can clip it and take the tubing off and re do it thats the only way. it takes a minute but it works.

2. are you on vacuum or gravity?

3. Is is a money thing that your waiting to put on CV's? I would just do it and get the stubbies on your drops now why wait you can always just use a straight adapter this year then it will save you that much time when you don't need to do it next year!!! if your putting on new drops anyway just do it now.

oops sorry I didn't see Potter's post.

It is possible you will get more sap at the end of the season as even with the first season as you get warm days there is bacteria/microbes building up in the lines.

Red Maple,

What your saying makes sense to me. I will just put CVs on this season in hopes to getting the max out of my woods. I plan on high vac. Thanks

you can install leaders stubbies and use their regular adapters the first season, cv's after first year. this is what i do.
