I was thinking about attaching an additional mainline (3/4 in.) to an existing mainline to help eliminate some very long laterals. It is a gravity system and the current mainline is 300' with 60 taps on it. I bought a stainless steel Y to connect the new mainline to the current mainline. A few questions:

- Do I attached the new mainline wire to a near by tree or is there another option?
- What is the sequence in attached the new mainline - do I first attached at the bottom to the Y or at the top with a ratchet/tension grip

I would run your wire over top of your existing mainline so you have a drop. I generally start at the far end and work my way toward the splice. I tie my mainline to the wire up to about 5' from the Y (i move my Y a couple feet down stream from my wire) i connect my hose to the Y then cable tie it tight this put side tension on both lines and keeps them tight.

We've tried to bring them in to a tree with a lag as an anchor (and as Jason said, over top of the existing line and do the far end first). We don't use rachets though, just pull it hand tight then 3 crimps and tighten with side ties. We don't have stainless Y's either as, we're using the blue 1" lamb Y's from Leader. There doesn't seem to be a lot of room for two band clamps on them, wondering if folks have leaking with only one?

Leaking with the lamb tee's does not seem to be a problem, but pulling apart in cold temps can be. I have been putting an extra clamp around the wire and the mainline. I cut a piece of line to act as a buffer to go around the mainline, split it lengthwise, slip it over the line, and then clamp around the wire and the whole bundle.
