View Full Version : cam locks
Is anybody using cam locks, or quick couplers, or whatever you want to call them on your vacuum system? If so, have you had any leakage issues with them? I'd like to install several in the woods to open up roadways at the end of season. I'll stick with my original couplers and clamps if leakage is an issue.

you can use them but you need to use regular pipe barb to thread fittings in the pipe and then the threaded cam locks screw on to them . the barbed cam locks are not the same size as the regular pipe fittings are

I've used cam-locks to separate my 3 releasers from my vacuum lines and sap and dry lines. Never had a problem with leaks, but Mountain Winds Farm is right about using threaded fittings as connectors.

I used the barbed ones without any issue. I soaked my pipe in hot water then slide the fitting right in. I only use one hose clamp per fitting. No leaks no problems. They would great for the application you are seeking.

What I've found is the one's from Bascom's generally have barb's which too small. I've gotten others though which have been fine...think these came from Graingers. They're kind of pricey though. What I'm going to do in the future, is just use a standard barbed coupling and when season's over, pull it apart, and install plugs in the end. Simpler, cheaper, and less areas for leaks.

I use the barbed ones from leader with a hose clamp. Works great, and I open up my roads in the winter for logging. The trick is finding a way to keep the lines tight. I anchor at both end of the barway, and use a rachet winch to pull the mainline tight enough to connect. Once it's tight you're all set.

I just use the PVC threaded couplers they are cheaper and seal very well. just don't loose the rubber o rings :(

I use these at road crossings also. They seem to hold vacuum well.

these work well if you also put them in where the lines come into the releaser. this allows you to take the releaser somewhere with hot water and clean it so it doesnt mold and the sugar dont gum up the parts. if its sticking suring the season just wait until a freeze up and then remove to clean or fix
