im going to attempt to make a new evaporator out off a 275 oil tank, to fit my new ( to me) 2x4 pan i got for fathers day. i currently boil a 2x2 flat pan on a barrel arch I made a couple years ago. I picked up a barrel stove kit for my new arch that comes with a door and a 6'' fitting for the stack. Is that enough? or do i need bigger? can I use it and adapt 6'' to 8" right off, or should I just start off with 8''?
opinions please

i boiled on a homemade 2x5 out of a 275 oil tank and it had a 6" stove pipe and worked great. i would say that would be fine from what i've seen some 2x6 arches have 6" and others have 8". Hope this helps cpmaple

Is there a down side to having too big a stack? I'm building a 6' long block arch with 5 steam pans and I'm thinking about putting in two side by side 6" stacks. Would that be good, bad or just overkill in a cute but not harmless way? Last year I had a two pan block arch and used a stack of cinder blocks as the chimney and that worked well. i figure the area of the two cinderblock holes is closer to two 6" pipes than one 6"er. Thanks for any opinions!
