I have a 2x8 flat pan and I’m going to be building a block arch. I’m looking at the firebox being 30in deep….should I go with a slope or not? Also what height should I build the arch?

You should definitely build a slope and be sure to have 16-20 feet of stack to get a strong enough draw. Three course of blocks should give you a comfortable height and a tall enough fire box for the grate and wood.
Does your pan have dividers and draw offs?

In my Block arch for the slope I used tapcons and mounted angle iron to the sides and then put braces across to better distribute the weight. Then i put a piece of steel 3/16 inch thick down on the frame. I got the steel for a quart of syrup. Steel is cheap here! you coulod go thinner just make sure you have plenty insulation and support. I could stand on mine! this saves a lot of filling with dirt rocks and sand. And it was quick and is easily thrown togather.
