I am wondering how many taps I should put on an 1in. main line?

thanks Philip

Not more than 600 i think is leaders recommendation.

I thought it was 500 taps for 3/4 inch could be wrong. not sure about 1 inch.
did you search on here? think I saw that one somewhere.

According to Leader's catalog, with vacuum:
• Size the Mainline right:
3/4 inch - max 250 taps
1 inch - max 500 taps
1-1/4 inch - max 900 taps
1-1/2 inch - max 1,600 taps
***Sizing is different for wet-dry line systems.

I wish someone would posted the wet/dry info as well. I think i read someplace that a 1" wet/1" dry can handle 2000. Just curious. once that info is posted it should be made a sticky at the top of the page.

In the north american MSPM although this is the second edition and the copywrited for 2006. info is now 5 years old. they lay it out by slope as follows

< 5%
3/4 < 400 taps
1" less than 700
1 1/4 < 1100
1 1/2 < 1600

5-10 % slope

3-500
4-900
9-1400
12-2000

10> Slope
3-600
6-1100
9-1800
12-2600

But I would go with leaders recommendations as that is up todat einfo for max sap production.

also according to the namspm: For wet dry system using 1 inch dry and 3/4 wet they say 1000 taps, although I think that would be reverved right?? smaller dia tube on top makes more sense to me?? but thats what it says. can carry 1000 taps. a 1"+3/4" wet dry set up has the same area as a 1-1/4 inch single pipe which leader says 900 taps. but the advantages are air(vacuum transfer) vs sap flow, and if the wet line is frozen the dry line can also carry sap before the remainder of the line defrosts.

for 1" dry 1" wet and 1" dry I would say its closer to 1600 maybe a little more being that the area is just a slight bigger area than a 1.5" single tube. If in fact my equation is correct. going by area of a single tube vs a double or wet dry tubing set up.

There are many factors to consider. Vac. or gravity? Slope? Length of mainline?

The webinar and associated workbook posted here has everything you need to set up a well designed vac. tubing system to maximize production.

Highly recommended for anyone setting up a woods on vac. Gravity is different however.

Brad on a wet dry system the larger line is for vacuum and the smaller for sap.
