Looking for suggestions/comments. This weekend I put up the 10" stack on my new 2x6 to mark where I need to cut through the roof. My concern is the distance from the stack to the ridge board which is 10". Would wrapping the stack with an inch or two of ceramic blanket offer enough protection for the ridge board?

Thanks

Russ

My stack is pretty close as well. We put fireproof board on the wood around it. Any wood near it is covered with the fireproof board. It is the same stuff that you can get at a stove shop for behind your woodstove. Has worked realy well. Have to say I have never felt the wood(the ceiling is pretty high) but a friend did climb up and check the temp. of the wood first time boiling. Was fine. I feel very safe with this setup. Hope this has helped.

Is the evaporator raised or drop flue?

I also have a 2x6 grimm, I rapped my stack in sheet metal and left about a 2 inch gap between the stack and the sheet metal. It works great for me!!

I HAD a pump sprayer full of water and would soak down the rafters in between draws and firing it:D

The evaporator is a drop flue.

Thanks for all the replies.
