I am converting from wood to oil and could not find it.How far down from the bottom of the pans do you install the oil gun?I have a 3x12 cross flow evaporator raised flue.I will be installing a carlin 601 oil gun.Any advice and help would be appreciated.
Thanks Lee

Is the bottom of the arch considered the fire grates? Also how far in does the cone go in from the front?

I'm 13" from the bottom of my pans, somewhere in one of these threads I found that number. I have a much smaller arch and oil gun. It might be a good idea to cover the grates with ceramic blanket. Good luck

Yes indeed , cover those grates . You want the heat on the pans ! Or maybe take the grates right out .

Does anyone out there use used motor oil?(waste oil)I am thinking of trying it out and would like to get as much feed back as possible. The biggest factor I will be facing is how to pre heat for atomization. If any of you are already set up please let me know.I would like to pick brains about it.
Thanks to all

That's illegal in VT , better do some research before you get too far into burning waste oil .

What makes it illegal? It is not much different than #6 oil.

You'll need to remove the grates and build a vertical wall instead of the ramp that you probably have. line the whole firebox with ceramic blanket to the bottom, the extra space allows the oil fueled fire to roll in the fire box instead of simply shooting back the pans and up the stack.
