I bought a refractometer to test my trees this year. My sugars are running about 2% my norways are 1.5 to 2.2 reds are just a little less. I have a silver that is about 3 1/2 feet in diameter, i put four taps in it. Two taps are running about 2.5 to 3.0 one tap is running 3.2 and one ran today at 4.0 it's on the north side. This is my sweetest tree. What gives? Is this a freak of nature? I have one other silver that runs about where it is supose to, a little less than the reds.

I would guess the crown is great on that silver, leaves make the sugar and that one must have a huge leaf area. If everyone pruned all competition fron whatever trees we use we would all have much higher sugar content.
