Wasn't really sure where to post this but I'm going to need to pick up a generator to run my SP22 and BB2 vacuum pump this season. What I don't know is what size (Watts) generator I will need. The SP22 has a 3/4 hp electric motor wired for 220 volts and the BB2 has a 1/2 hp electric motor wired for 115 volts. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am taking this from memory but I believe the motor states that when wired for 120V the amps are 19A, When wired for 220V it is around 9.5A.
This is for a Surge 1.65HP motor. Kind of an odd size motor.

If I was going to use a generator I would wire it up for 220V if the generator is capable.

Hope it helps.

with out the nameplate rating of motors according to NEC 430.248 single phase motor listing Full Load Current on the motors you have said.
3/4 220v/230 is 6.9 amps= 6.9x220=1518W
1/2 120v is 9.8amps= 9.8x120=1176W

if the 1/2hp motor wired 220/230 amps would be 4.9

to figure the inrush current or amount of "surge" in watts im not sure at this time. But from the total Watts of each motor as they are wired is 2694 running. I would say if you purchased a 4500W generator with a surge of 5k or around there you would be fine.

Plus if the pumps are out in the woods near the tank and releaser A shop lite makes life fun. Dont discount a miny fridge full of Coors Lite;)

Scott, how far from the sugarhouse are you putting the pumps? Could you just put them at the sugarhouse and run a dry vac supply line to the releaser in the woods? That's how all of mine are. I'll be up your way tomorrow, meeting clients at Julie's for breakfast.

Mapleack - Its over 4000 feet to the releaser from the shack....the four wheeler says 1.1 miles staying on the trails. Next year that is my plan. I will run 2 one inch dry lines from the barn to the releaser (planning for a liquid ring pump for next year). For this year a generator will have to do. I have a 5600 watt generator but I will need that for the shack to run the filter press, blower, tv, lights and so on. I figure going with a generator will also be a plus incase I get the bush Im looking at for next year.
