I built one out of a beer keg and a float switch from lowes last year. costed me about 25 $ to make it. Let me know if you want me to email you the plans. The best way is to PM me.

I flipped the keg upside down and took the part where the tube goes down in and put a fitting in there to my pump. I put my sap and vacuum lines on the top and then on the side cut a 4 inch hole and put a cap in with a float switch for a sump pump through it. very simple design. I can email you pictures of it.

OK I'm a little confused here The thread started out using the word MANUAL extractor. The next thread talked about a float switch.....................Help me out is it me or are we mixing terms. Its like someone talking about preheaters and the next guy says he uses a RO...............WHAT

No the terms confused me as well. Manual and extractor alone dont fit together. An extractor needs a electric transfer pump. A manual releaser on the other hand is all well heck manual. Levers pulleys floats check valves etc.

Didn't catch the Extractor part of the thread. There are RELEASER'S and EXTRACTORS and then there is just plain COMPLICATED like mine

Yeah but its going to take a weeks training along with an instruction manual and a parts list from the mad scientist who built that thing :D

Is there some kind of metric equivalent to these odd evaporators made in Canada, i mean i see a lot of 18x60's now a 18x54, why not a 1.5x5 or a 1.5x4.5 whats the secret up there. Heck even Patrick builds them by the foot.

I have no clue. I looked at a very nice 18" x 63" this past week... but try and source a new pan for it! Hey Jim... how much for a....

i would guess the odd sizes work out to what can be fit into a certain size sheet of stainless

Coppied and pasted from an email

Sorry it has taken me a while to get back to you on this email but i havent had much time. Anyway for this you need a beer keg and a pump of some sort. if you dont have a beer keg you could find some kind of container that would hold a vacuum. i made this last year and my fabrication skills are next to awful if it helps boost your confidence of being able to make this.

The first step with a beer keg is to take out the tap part which is normally on the top. you can get a "fernco" fitting and go onto the outside of this and go into an elbow into the input of your pump. After that you have to cut a hole in the side large enough to fit a float switch for a sump pump. (float can be bought at lowes) I got a 4 inch male screw in cap and a female threaded 4 inch adapter to a 4 inch male pvc. then to a female 4 inch pvc to threaded male 4 inch. i drilled a hole through the 4 inch cap and put the wire to float switch through it and re connected the wires on the outside. I plugged my pump into a piggyback float switch but if that is not an option you can wire it in series with your pump. And on the bottom of the keg which would be the top after you are finished. Drill two holes for your sap input and vacuum lines. for them you need 2 1 inch male adapters. To create a good seal all you have to do is put silicone around them while pushing them in and putting more around them after they are in. the holes should be cut slightly larger than the size of the threads so you have to push hard and thread in the fittings. They all should be like that even the ones on the side. and if you like you can weld on the fittings. I have a few pictures of the thing in operation. i could draw you a diagram if you like. send me another email. Worked like a champ last year. My cousin did the same thing with a stainless steel swimming pool fliter body. that eliminated the big 4 inch pipe in the side because he could easily open it and work from both sides.

if you have any questions please feel free to call. I do not bite. 724-986-0631

This year i am using a milk receiver from a shut down dairy farm. Ask local farmers if they are willing to sell them. got my whole set up for 150$

Rossol I think you need to photo shop in a picture of Doc from "Back to the future" :) Have the cops ever showed up and believed what you told them? I do like the rig. Reading your post I would never have come up with that contraption/extractor.

Ok I see that and it takes me back to when I was a kid. Certainly makes me entain the thought of getting into vacuum much quicker.
God I love balein wire and glue!!
I can understand that------
Going to a auction in a couple of weeks of a old neighbor back home-- I don't know if their old milking compressor is there yet or not.

Haneys, I have been asked several times if i am making moonshine. People around here arnt used to random lights in the middle of the woods. The shame of it is that if it was moonshine that i made i would probably make more money.

Do you have plans to rework the rig and consolidate it into a compact set up?

i tell you what i have built 6 different styles releasers hold pattens on 3 new disigns and i still bought two a single last year and a double for this year i sleep ezer at night not worring about if my homemade one will not screw up threw the night and wipe out my pump

I bought a milk receiver. Receiving jar. It is the part that releases milk from the vacuum lines. It cost me 150 then another 150 in control panel work then another 75 in a back up pump. It is glass so i will be able to see the sap coming in. I will post a video when i get it up and running.

I pretty much duplicated this set up in my garage( Beer keg releaser that Rossell's posted). The problem I am having is the pump that I have to extract the sap will not pump out until the vacuum goes less than 15 hg. The pump that I'm using to extract is a 1/2 hp shallow well pump that has been used on a well. Is this what I should expect or should it do better than this. My vacuum pump will go 25 or greater on a tight system. I don't want to put the money in a pump that won't do any better than what I have. Any suggestion are greatly appreciated.

Do you have a line going from your discharge side of you pump to the keg cause that will help the pump prime and pump

schellmaple

I do have a 1/4" line from the discharge side of pump to the sap inlet of the keg.
