I have been looking to up grade for the 2013 season. I been looking at 2x8 2-1/2 x8. How long of a stick of wood are you all using?
Thanks Brian

Two foot is what I'm running in my 2by8 with Inferno arch. I could maybe go a little longer but 24in. is the min. on my splitter.

I run 24" I tried 36" but the ramp built up to much coals and blocked it up some. And its hard to pull the coals back unless you let the front burn down to almost nothing.

I've been burning 24", though I think 30" would be better. Only reason I'm using 24" is I keep thinking I'm going to finally buy a wood splitter and a 24" stroke is way cheaper than one that splits 30".

Woodshed is now packed with 6 cords of 24" wood and still no splitter. Maybe next year?

My 3x8 will take 30" but I like 21" best. I set it about 4" in from the door and the rear 5" or so gets a build up of very hot coals if I cut any longer. If I cut I had no problem, but I had a man cutting for me who's 20" ranged from about 15 up to about 36. I bought a mango and a wheel to mark every 14". I use 14" at home. When he cuts sugar wood he cuts every mark and a half. It seeded to correct his problem. This Mango uses a inverted marker paint and sprays a small dot every 14" by just rolling long. Before that I kept making marker sticks for him, but they either got cut or broken or lost too soon.
