There is an opportunity near here to get into a 600 acre bush.

600 x 75 trees / acre = oh my god !!!!!!!

Go for it !!!!!!! If I had the chance I wouldn't even blink. Nobody says you have to tap them all at first. You only live once!

Its all well and good for someone to say "Go for it"

45,000 taps = about a $1,000,000 investment to get started. Plus the time and manpower to get the job done.

Good Luck

I could dream up ways to raise the capital.

If I could only find a way to lower my age, it would be a no-brainer.

If you figure that out... or how to lower hydro rates... let me know. I'll start another web site for miracles. :D

Actually I'm pretty tired, especially in this period of electioneering in Ontario, about Hydro Rates. We have the lowest, or almost the lowest power rates in the world.

Google up the rates for Arizona for example. Last time I looked they were about 48 cents / KwHr. Only 4 times what we pay.

Compare to Quebec which is only 20 minutes from my farm.... but we are getting off-topic I suppose.

But you guys can at least contact Hydro. I can't here anymore as they do not have english service and more.
I would love to get into a bunch of maple trees like that. The land right behind me has millions of trees but it is all down hill from my house some what. I tapped some but you can only haul so much sap by hand at any age let alone over 50.

As I said, Thad you don't have to do it all at one time. Nor do you have to do the whole thing ever. However if somone wanted a gross income of over 300k per year they would want to consider it. As I said I would do it in a instant. It is a indivdials choice.

It's dangerous to put a lot of money into someone else's land. I know some big producers up in northern Maine with hundreds of thousands of taps on land that was owned by Enron at one point. Whenever they wanted to cut an area, they lost thousands of taps.
