Tell me if I'm completely off the wall here. Does anyone have a sugarhouse with a rounded quonset hut style roof? I am getting up the wood frame on a 12 x 24 sugarhouse. and thinking about the roof. I know this is totally not traditional look but does or has anyone tried this. I almost bought metal quonset building once and read about them. They come in pieces about 2 ft wide and you are supposed to attach them to a footer of some sort, so I'm thinking someone would sell just the top curved part, and that can attach to the top of my walls. They are also made to finish with thin sheeting on the inside like luan or something similar.
I'm looking at the cost of the rafters, wood sheeting, then metal roof and the building of all that, compared to the cost of the curved roof which is basically self supporting without rafters, maybe just some stringers to tie the walls together at the top.
Would the steam draft out a curved roof? I can see a cupola with a curved roof too! Is this nuts or so goofy no one has ever done it?
