How do you guys make your rear drop flu pans. I went to every sheet metel shop in my area today and nobody can seem to make 7" drop flues for me. I had full intentions on ordering a 2.5x8 lapiear cross flow storm this summer but things dident seem to work out for me, i guess thats what happens when you have a little one. so instead im building another one. its gonna be air tight with auf and aof with a 3 blower system. the tig welding and bending is not the issue but i really want a drop rear pan. any help would be great. i guess there was a post on here before on how to do it but i cant seem to find it now........ thanks in advance Josh

If I remember correctly Paperman and Big Eddy built 7"flue pans with a homemade brake. I was able to find it #7 Homemade (Starting to build flue pan.) Hope this helps. Lee

When I built my pan ( http://mapletrader.com/community/showthread.php?t=10535) I used a 4X10' sheet with the entire 10' folded up. Biggest pain was fitting all the little fingers in the ends of the flues. The other issue I had was the fittings on the sides. Bought some real nice sanitary fittings. Started welding them is and watched the side of the pan warp real bad. I was sad and mad at the same time. everything was straight and square for 2 weeks now the last weld tweaked the whole deal. Oh well its a home build and sure does work good.

Where did you get the float valve I have been looking for one like that but unable to find one?

I ran into the same problem last year trying to come up with a drop flue pan. Below is the thread where I built mine. Like Paperman said, welding the ends and getting them not to leak was my problem. I had to first teach myself to IG weld stainless. Then the added trouble of welding 24g SS is tough. Good luck with our build.

making a drop or a raised flue pan is not that hard . if you have someone that can do some brake work for you and then weld it up .i am making a 5 inch drop with a 5 inch raised pan right now . and also a syrup pan .i have all my shearing and brake work done then weld it up. you need to look past the normal box construction and use what we call a hat formed channel, then invert ether the top or the bottom to make you pan as wide as you need . it is very simple to do and make even on a homemade brake email me or call me and i can help you out with this my shop phone is 269-673-6132 ask for roger good luck

Are you saying then that you weld a bunch of L shaped pieces together? Do you weld a full length weld on top and bottom to build every single flue? That would be crazy!! Yikes.
