I have currently mapped out more trees than I planed to have a few weeks ago. If I wanted to up grade to a bigger evap., maybe a 2x6, for I'm wondering if it will be to big. I have found that in my area with the neighbors letting me use their trees, I could have easy over 70 taps this season. I was wondering how a a 2x4 or a 2x6 would handle those taps, compared to my little half-pint2x3? How long of a boil would I have with a 2x4 or a 2x6? My half-Pint is rated for like 15 to 50 taps. Just let me know.

Thanks...:D

I think the biggest difference is if you were to get an evap, whether it be a 2x4 or 2x6 that has an actual flue pan. that is wher ethe surface area comes in. You need to break it down into hours. what is the half pint good for for GPH? On a good run, in 70 taps you might get 70 gallons. divide that by your rigs gph and it will give you about how long you will be boiling.

With the Half-Pint I'd say I get alittle over 4-5 probably. that means I'd have to boil for 14 hours or more per day, which is alittle much for me to handle. If I were doing that I'd wake up at 5 and boil for 15 hours and shut down at 8 p.m. That wouldn't be very fun, it's a long day!:(

yup, that is what everyone on this board has been telling me for awhile. I was thinking about hte half pint i nthe begenning as well. Then I got up to 120 taps or so and things changed from there.

technically yes. Is it actually in my garage/saphouse..no! MY BIL (whom I bought it from) has been dragging his feet on getting it ready to be transported. They are getting a 2.5x8 I beleive and when they pick that one up they will deliver mine. Hopeing it is sooner than later!

Its an older (early 90's) Leader 2x6. King Pan setup. I got it for $2,000. Includes all the stack. I guess it was a decent price.

Just wondering, how much sap does it take to fill a 2x6 evaporators pans with about 2 or 3 inches of sap? what are they're gph boiling rates?

I dont recall what I was told for filling. My guess is 30 gallons or so? I was also told around 25gph.

King Pan setup.
Okay... you're talking American to me again. Are King pans a flat pan setup or a flue pan?

Flue pans

Leader used to do 2 types of back pan King style and Leader style. I think the Leader had one divider and the King had multiple dividers and a warming pan near the front.

I guess it could be either. it has a flue pan though that is for sure. IT looks like the new american. The syrup pan has 4 dividers in it.
