I was asked a question the other day by a customer about my Sugarhill jugs. are they BPA free.
I have no idea.
They have a son that has a buch of alergies and they are trying to limit the amount of stuff that can effect their health.

I mean I can bottle syrup in jars for them if that is how they want it but it got me thinking if the plastic jugs that we are using to bottle syrup in may have any thing that can or may cause long term health issues.

I know that this strike a cord in some people but there must be something about plastic because almost all things that are sold in plastic and are BPA free will state this on the packaging.

I did a quick search on Google and didn't find anything. Would call the manufacturer.

Good question. Especially since states like Maine are banning BPA products.

I hope somebody has a solid answer.

Good Question

I would contact sugerhill and bacon to double check that. it says #2 If remember right I read somewhere that if BPA is added to plastic to harden it it has to be labels #7. I read that about the 5 gallon water bubbler bottles were labels #7 and had trace amounts of BPA added to the plastic but they doing away with those because of the bans on BPA's going on all over the place and are now labels #1.

You could probably google the recycling codes and see what the number are exactly. Hope that helps a bit.

Other wise get some Glass bottle just have make sure the lid isn't coated with plastic it usually contains BPA's most canning jars have it!!! can't get away from that crap!!!

Plastic syrup jugs are #2 plastic. BPA is found in #7 plastic. Regardless, most people I sell to nowadays prefer glass bottles, which is opposite from 10 years ago.

Even if your going to glass containers, the caps still would have BPA in them. ALL aluminum and steel food cans have BPA in the coatings. There has been some trials with BPA free coatings, but to my knowledge that is all it has been thus far is trial runs.

Did you all know that many receipts that you get at stores are loaded with BPA laced material? Wal-mart and McD's sales receipts are loaded with BPA.

Thanks, I did not know about BPA only being adding to certain plastics. That helps a little.
Kind of a bummer that there is some on the lids for glass bottles.

It sounds like it can be tough to get away from this crap. I guess you just try and do your best to limit the amount that you are exposed to.

Just talked to sugarhill folks and no BPA in their jugs. Just spoke to Bacon jugs - also no BPA in their jugs. I assume Cruchon jugs are the same but I couldn't find a phone number for them...
