Well after seeing a 1/2 dozen guys boiling this weekend. I spent this weekend in 10 degree temps snowing and high winds tapping. Got all 700 in.
Only lost one tree from the wind storm.
Looks like 3 good days this week for sap. I hope to have 2000-3000 gals to boil next weekend. Before another cold spell comes in.

When you tap frozen wood do you drive the spile in of just put it in by hand? I would like to get started tapping,,itchy trigger finger and all,,just concerned about splitting the holes,,,Thanks

Joe,
Good luck and hopefully you will get a lot of sap. Sure hope your trees run better than mine. I had 40 on Tues with all sun, 49 Wed with all Sun, 60 on Thurs with lots of sun and 40 on Fri and I only got 880 gallon out of 425 taps. Yours are on vaccum, so you should do better. I am not complaining as I was thankful for what I got, but seemed strange but that is still by far the most I have gotten on the first run. :?

Brandon,
That sounds like a good run to me. We have about the same number of taps as you (If we ever get them in) and 880 would be a very good day on buckets for us. i may try to tap a few tomorrow afternoon. Couple warmer days this week then next week looks real good starting about March 1.
Good Luck boiling,
Chris
