With this weekends deep freeze, is there any concern about tapping when it is this cold?

Yes, tapping frozen trees is not the best idea. You are much more likely to create splits in the bark that take a long time to heal. If you must do it set the taps very lightly and check them when it warms up for sap leaking around the outside of the tap. Rob

I'd say if you are using plastic spouts put them in with your hand and then go back after and tap in if they are leaking. I would not recommend using metal spouts that need to be hammered in Rob is right, it is very easy to make a small split and then the sap will seep down the side of the tree vs.going into your bucket.
Stay inside and enjoy the Daytona 500

I'd love to stay inside, but with the wife and kids away for the weekend,
its rare to get a chance to get a little ahead.
