Will be using some 5 gallon (new) plastic buckets with lids and using drops for some more trees on neighbors properties including my parents..Yeah I know, havent even started yet and am already adding more taps! haha

Jsut curious to know where to get them that are considered food grade. I have seen then at Ace (TrueValue) and at TSC...does anyone use these buckts from either of these stores? They dont indicate that they are Polyethlene etc...I would be dumping them every day.

For making sauerkraut I have gone to my local big food store chains and in the bakery you can get 3 gallon and 5 gallon plastic food pails with covers that they get frosting and mixes in many times free or for a nomial charge.

Bakerys are good for free ones as well as someone who is into making and selling honey. I have a good friend who saves me his 5 gal. buckets that they use for honey. Check with some of your local Bee keepers.

I think you will be happy with how much this type of set-up runs.

USA Plastics has a great selection. They have an extensive website.

I went to 2 local grocery stores and the bakery department would save them for me at no charge. Picking them up once a week i quickly accumulated 80-100 3-4 gallon pails with lids. They were from muffin mixes.

We picked up 40 pails and lids from the local "do-it'yourself" wine store. Their grape concentrate comes in 5 gal pails and they had hundreds of pails that they were selling for $1 w/ the lid. Needed a good wash once home though.

I use Lowes buckets they are #2. I belive that the sap will be cold and it wont be in there for no more than 24 hours. They are brand new only used for sap. I belive they are ok.

Look at the bottom and see if HDPE 2 is in the triangle. If so you will be ok. I have been using them with no issues. Just make sure you use new buckets, not ones with pickels or any thing that may cause off flaver etc.
