Okay some of you might have read that I grenaded my hydraulic valve on my 3pt hitch woodsplitter. OEM one is around $180 bucks. Forget that way to much money. So I did some web searching and some phone calls. IF any of you have a low volume pump on the tractor or your splitter itself I highly recomend this valve unit. My tractor has a 7gpm pump on it and the splitter was always on the slow side. This valve is recomended for 3 to 4 gpm pumps but the phone calls confirmed that those numbers are on the conservatice side. I bought one and it ground shipped to me in a day. This vavle has a dual speed on it. After getting it all plumbed up I am amazed at how fast this thing is and how well it works. I do not recomend one guy running the handle and another loading the wood on the splitter its just to fast and things can go wrong in a hurry. The fastest speed split probably 75% of my wood today and by letting of the handle a smidge it slow is down for max force and bust through those hard knotty blocks. It normally took me 2 1/2 hours to split enough wood to fill my wood trailer and today I cut and split 3 wagon loads and it averaged out to about 1hour and 20 minutes to fill one load. 1 wagon load is about 3/4 of a cord of wood for me. Truly worth every penny I spent. Heres a link to it for anyone interested in speeding up there wood processing. http://www.cylinderservices.net/catalog.asp?prodid=601852

Thanks 3rdgen! So, does that attach to my shoulder, lower back, forearm, or directly to my elbow? Yeah, I know, I'll eventually get a splitter.

Heck just attach it to the syrup pan and use it for a draw off valve. Then when you wise up and get a splitter you can take it off and put it on that. lol

3rdgen, thanks for finding that! I have the same, slow 3pt hitch splitter. I rarely use it because its so slow. I can usually split by hand at LEAST twice as fast. This is something I will definitely look into.

Very cool, I was planning to run the splitter off my portable backhoe, this should solve the speed issue nicely ! Now I just have to build the splitter

That valve I posted is amazingly fast. The retract time isnt affected however but dang the splitting speed is incredible. I do have to report again however to be very careful using it and skip the two man deal running it. Just to risky having a seperate set of hands on the controls. Ask my nephew and my dad when they barrowed it. Dad came darn close to losing his finger and took a nice chunk out of it but hey they just switched positions and then my nephew took a small chunk of meat out of his arm. You would think after I told them they would of listened and you would even think after one go thurt they would have learned. Be careful guys.

Hey Jim your cooking with oil now Forgetaboutit. I have a few Prince double detent valves and they are sweet but very dangerous with the lock forward and reverse. BUT fast. Now I have to ask JUST how does a valve speed up the oil flow is it like a "VACUUM BOOSTER":o:mad:....................STFUC:rolleyes:

Haynes you dont get much exercise writing checks. The old guys always say you get heat out of wood twice once when you cut and split, and once when you burn it.

xyz5150 When you travel 1200 miles to do the sugerin you only have so much time. So I wrote 2 checks one for oil and one for the RO. Just don't have the time. I do have a big splitter I built about 15 years ago and its down at my Buddy's tree service. Now I just pull up and get the fireplace wood already split:)

I know, just teasing, i dont know how you do it, my bush is a 1/2 mile behind my house and i make a ton of trips back and fourth.Did you break the news to your oil supplier that you bought a RO? That will save you a ton of money on fuel. OK off topic i can hear the chat room complainers already.

I like the teasing part. I have most everything I need at the sap shack. I do haul a trailer back and forth with alot on it. Its all about having good relations with alot of good folks that will help with about everything. I didn't use the splitter much so I didn't see a reason to not let others use it. I mill most of my logs. I just cut down a 28" Sugar Maple and got 3 good sticks out of it so I will be getting some maple for projects.
