My cousin and i have decided to go at it on our own after year's of helping my uncle who has decided to retire at the young age of 80:lol:. We started this project around May of this year! It is a slow process because i work in road construction and i only have one day a week to work on it. My cousin Marty has a busy Job as well so we are doing the best we can. I will say one thing and that is! This is going to be a really nice set up. Enjoy the pics.

Looks to be coming along well for August! You two still have quite a bit of time before it's sapping weather! Love the sapwood pile too. I have just started on mine and it's slow going. Splitting pine is SHI**Y work:twisted:

Thanks to everyone! We are located in upstate New York in a small town called Burlington. We are 10 minutes from Cooperstown where the Baseball Hall of Fame is located. Those pic's were from early spring! I will post some more today of the updated progress! Our porch is on and we are just about ready for tin. I forgot to mention the building measures 24x32.

That pile there was what we had in slabs after milling all of the lumber. Never let anything go to waiste!:D. We milled all of our lumber and siding for the sugar house. I will get a pic of the real wood pile today.:D.

Under the old Trader there was an album for each person.
I found this out when I started to follow this thread. With the most recent posting in this thread I went looking for the album and sure enough the albums are no longer there. Must be something with the new style of the Trader.

Looks great, i can not wait to get my shack started.

How deep did you put your posts into the ground if you do not mind me asking?

Dan Bolton

Well then that explains why they are gone. I will post them to the gallery or attach them to this site. We put out post's 4 feet deep decers. I thought a porch the whole distance would give it some character.

Hey, now that is cheating!! You can't use a bucket truck when doing roofing!!

What are you planing for siding?

Looking good.

Lol! I was not about to try and stand on that 8/12 pitch with rain and snow on it. We have a connection and he let us borrow there bucket truck. That was like cheating:cool: Our siding will go on next spring and it will be rough cut 1X10's.

Man, I wish we had that bucket truck to get our roof and cupola on! It was not fun doing that…..Used the tractor bucket and a ladder on the roof, a real sight! Wish I had photos to share. A real 'red-neck' way of doing it for sure!4753Great job and the shack is looking good, can't wait till spring!

I here ya brotha! We originally were not going to build a steam coupalo. We were going to only go with a steam hood over the evaporater. So we waited till the tin was all on to change our minds. Would have been a whole lot easier with the tin off. We atleast would have had a place to stand. On the pearlings that is. Live and learn. I was checking your album out and i feel for you on that roof! I did all of the roof work on ours. It was so slow and it never seemed like it would get done but it did. Beautifull building you have.

Dan,
Sugar house is looking good, @55mph, when I drive by. Coupla looks much better. I see you have the house wrap on. When do you plan on putting the siding up?

Dan Bolton

Probably next spring. We have both sliding door's built so they can go on. We then have to dig the electric and water line in. We have all of our electrical stuff to wire the whole building so that will be the next step. We basically want it air tight so when i get laid off around christmas i can finish the inside off during the long winter day's.

It has been a long time since my last post. Slowly we are getting things done. The electric is all in and all working. Water line has been dug and run. Our decking for our porch is on. In the last few days we got our holding tanks as well as built the platform for our holding tanks. Today i cleared a path all the way up in to where we will be running our main line and tapping. Our next move is moving our 1000 gallon tank up from storage to the sugar house. We then have to build our bracing to support that. We will also be headed to Shaver Hill Maple to get all of our main line. We want to get the wire and line and get it up. We have to take advantage of zero snow on the ground here in upstate ny. It is just about january and no snow. Unreal. After we hang the main line then it is time to finish off the inside of our sugar house. We have most of it insulated. Then after that it is all about getting the evaporator done. Pans, stack, brick and so on. It has been a long year but in the end it will be worth all the hard work.
