i added and 7x8 ro room to the back of my sugarhouse and the entrance is thru the sugarhouse back wall. i have been trying to decided what to do for a door, i am just doing a standard walk thru size door but its shorter than average house door so kinda puts out the option of using a normal house entrance door, was thinking maybe sandwiching up something from plywood with foam insulation in the core. just curious what others had done

Ours has the old insulated front door from Mom and Dad's house. As long as its insulated and relatively moisture proof you're fine. The room tends to be very warm and wet when the RO is running so I'd stay away from plywood.

Get a cheap steel door and shortne it.
At the top and bottom of the door there is wood between the steel faces. The bottom has more than the top.
If you take off just from the bottom then you will not need to redo the hinges. Just remove the threshold and shorten the sides the amount removed from the door and reattach the threshold.

Or you could just make a door from scratch.

Made my own door like you said.

hmm i hope that my ro room doesnt get that way when running as the walls are all plywood, i have seen many folks use sheetrock or even chipboard so didnt think plywood was an issue

Our walls are plywood but are painted to keep the moisture damage to a minimum.

My Ro room is built out of OSB board (chip board). I have had it since 1990. the walls are not painted, however I am contemplating it since they are starting to get a bit dingy after 20+ years. The floor is made out of pressure treated plywood and the door is made out of regular plywood (insulated of course). When I change filters the filter housing is dumped right on the floor and the sap or permeate just goes through a small gap in the plywood down to the concrete floor and finds its way outside. I made the door from regular plywood because I figured the constant abuse the door would take by ushed on would eventually make splinters in my hand. I have zero problems with rot, mold, etc. However it is a bit grungy, but that is due to my cleaning habits.

yeah I was gonna say plywood and insulation and just paint it. you can also put in a vent with an exhaust fan of some sort a small gable vent would work good to help control the moisture and heat if you want.

I would put one of the clear plastic meat locker type door in so you can run back and forth without dealing with a door. You can also hear the unit working and still put up a door for the off season security.

im wondering if i should have a door with a window in it so i can keep an eye on whats happening in the ro room without having the noise filling the whole sugarhouse.
