sounds like bascoms are the ones that got taken, i believe they are in that county but not certain, and i recall hearing rumors of they getting scammed by someone selling syrup to them to the tune of over 10 grand, sounds like maybe thats what started the investigation and then it turned out the syrup was stolen also.

If that's the case, they must have had one heck of a good scam....not many people I know could pull one over on Bruce Bascom. He's been around the block a time or two.

Not knowing how he got scammed could it be that he simply bought bulk from a con artist? Could it be that he came into work and had a message from a producer to be on the lookout for someone selling pink and blue stripped barrels of grade A light prefilterd best tasting syrup dead on in density syrup. He calls down to the warehouse and SHAZAM yea we bought some yesterday. So how will Bascoms handle the next bulk sale? Will he ask for paperwork, documentation that its yours, Proof that you own it, tax ID no, DBA with bank account number, Direct deposit into known bank account, No checks over $1000,00 without trade name, Holds all bulk sales for 10 days before payment is made? Its always the scum of the earth that makes law abiding people have to jump thru hoops and prove thay are on the up and up:mad:

Below is a better article on the topic. One of the guys worked for a producer in VT, stole syrup from him, then sold it to Bascom's. The other way they got money was stealing a stack of blank syrup reimbursement slips from when you deliver syrup. They would then fill them out and forge a signature.
