Tough Pine

I usually love to split pine, but I just grabbed a bunch of year+ quarter rounds that are a pain in the neck. They are really stringy and I can barely get the maul through them. The strings are more like wide bands. Is it a type of pine that is always like this or do they just need to dry more?

We had to split our pine pile with the new splitter, no maul was going to get through it. Some wood splits better wet than dry. In any event the pine/spruce with a lot of knots tend to stay in the woods around here.

Most of them are full of knots, too. Tough stuff.
