Looking for info on what size/model oil burner might be used on a small-ish evaporator like a 2.5 x 8. More specifically, how many BTUs does that oil burner put out? I know a bigger evaporator like a 5 x 14 might have two carlin 601s or 701s, but don't have a clue on the smaller units.

thanks-

Eric

My Lapierre came through with a 5.5 gph nozzle. I had to cool it down a little, and put in a 4.25 gph nozzle. It still boils real good.

Mike- thanks for the reply- is there a way to translate that in to BTU output? Hoping one of the HVAC guys on here can chime in. Trying to figure out how to size a pellet boiler for an oil fired arch.

Mike,

1 gal. of #2 heating oil has 140,000 btu's --- multiply by the size of the nozzle for your total.

so is it a straight multiplier- i.e. do you take 4.25 gph x 140,000btu per gallon? If thats the case, then the pellet burners I'm looking at are too small. I know the company is looking at making a 500,000 btu/hr burner but its not out yet. That would be closer...

My 2.5X8 came with a 301, and I run a 5 gph nozzle, which burns 6 at 150 psi.

Eric,

Yes if the pump pressure is increased that increases your GPH so that would need to be calculated. I have a chart somewhere if you need that info. It is a str8 multiplication to answer your question. If my memory is correct, a 12-12 firebox will handle .85gph @ 100psi .... but its been a while since I learned that in school

I am working on something similar now as well, I may be switching to wood chips next year.
