Now all those presses for sale before sap season look like a good deal. Good equipment always holds its value. Get it now and dont look back. Building your own is cool if its done right..................BUT I wonder about the resale value if you decide to move up and want to sell.

Haynes thats a good idea I might have to give it a try. The question I do have is if I want to filter 3 or 4 gallons of syrup can I just use 3 plates and make a spacer with a piece of pipe so my wing nut is still on the threads?

Yes Just get 2 pipe nipples and keep the washer against the filter plate end. If you look On Ebay there is a press that I would swear is the same casting of the westfab 7" plates.

If I were selling something I would make it look better than that one, with a blanket behind so it can't be seen sitting out in the brush. I suppose it is OK but it just looks crappy.

Thanks Haynes I will use the pipe nipples. Those are some big presses on ebay. I can't believe all three of those presses are sitting out in the brush for the last few year, would be my guess.

Another way to do as you are asking, using only a few of the plates, Just take the plates that you will not be using and put them between the end plate and the wing nuts.

That way there isn't any thing for you to lose.

On my Westfab you cant do that because the end plate has reinforcing webbing that sticks out. If you did that you would bend the plates. I would run all the plates regardless of how muck cider/juice I was filtering because of the pulp being bigger than syrup niter/sediment.
