i have a strange 1 here my question being could i add 40 gals of ro water mixed with a gal of syrup and reboil it i know it wold be darker but would it still be concidered pure maple syrup i have like a november show that i would like to boil some syrup at not to sell just 4 the show

Why not - If you boil it down and check it with a syrup hydrometer and it shows you are at syrup - it is syrup. I had three gallons of "Thin" Maple Syrup that I canned two years ago - Dumped all the jars in a pan and reboiled it down till the hydrometer said maple syrup and it was - but - You are right -- it was darker -- but quite good -- Mike

It will work fine the biggest problem is all the people that will go back home and tell their friends that they made Maple Syrup in the middle of the summer.................Then the ones that want to know what trees you taped.

I've seen it done at open house maple weekends when the trees will not cooperate. Boil water and add enough dark grade B syrup to the back pan to add some color.

thanks all for ur input and confirming my thought that it should work fine, i may try it with plain well water also just 4 giggles. will post findings then tyvm

I did it one year during the season just boiling water in an evaporator that had made syrup a few days earlier but the weather did not cooperate. The water will get some color from any crevises that were not perfectly clean and it will smell like syrup. You just won't be able to draw. If you must draw, your idea will work but the syrup will be much darker that the starting grade. Next the question would be- how much do you need to be able to draw? If might be more than you would guess. Is this going to be a short demo or an all day event? If short I would suggest miging like you say for enough to be able to boil the desired time, but then pour some syrup in the draw section where it will dilute a little and mix but you should get a draw fairly soon.
