Does anyone run a blower in a shack without electric? How are you doing it? Thanks.

i did my first year on my 2x3 and used a 12 volt blower motor hooked up to a deep cycle battery. It would last 12 to 13 hours then take battery to workshop and charge it over night good to go. cpmaple

Would that be an automotive part or are 12 volt blowers commercially available?

My cousins ran their 3.5x14 Force 5 off a generator all season. Where there's a will there's a way!

I ran my 2x6 evaporator off of a 12 volt blower. I found the blower on an old R.V. camper heating system. They have a small squirrel cage blower that works perfect. I had a deep cycle 12 volt battery as my power source. The longest I had to run it was 5 hours without any problem. I have 110 power in my shack so I took the power inverter out of the camper and used that as my power source to convert 110 to 12 volt. I also use the 12 volt water pump on the bottom of my stepsaver to transfer the syrup into my barrels. It works great as long as when your done for the day you pump some warm water threw the pump.

just a couple side notes about lead-acid batteries:

1) get a deep cycle battery (not a regular automotive battery). They are designed to be repeatedly charged and discharged.

2) Try no to let your battery get below 50% state of charge (SOC). If you do, the plates will sulfate and the battery life will be shortened.

3) Recharge the battery promptly after usage. Sulfation will NOT happen if you keep the battery charged.

Someone just started a thread on a bike powered blower not sure where but it sounds like a good way to discourage extra "help" from coming back.

I hear Lance Armstrong can get a boil rate of 325 GPH on his 2x6 with pedal powered blower.

I got a 12 v blower from my friend that he had in his boat he wrecked, it was the blower for the inboard motor compartment. Hooked it to some 6 in round duct work and I had more air than the arch could handle. Just a piece cardboard over the inlet to the amount of air and away we went.

PerryW- What about an Optima deep cycle battery?

I can run my high pressure blower, lights, radio and the filter press as needed on my solar system. I now have 760 watts solar, going to 1520 this summer. At 760 I can run in full sun and still be charging the batteries, after dark I can run another 2-3 hrs before starting the generator and recharging the 8 trojan batteries while still running the whole thing. When this battery bank needs replacing, I will be getting one about 4 times as big, Then I will have at least 3040 watts solar, maybe more.
