Anyone on the Trader tried the Bag in Box style of bulk packaging? Think box of wine or boxes of soda I've seen some 2-3 gallon boxes.

curious what people's experiences are.

I have been to Bascom's and seen bags in box on pallet. Sure is a lot of syrup in a cardboard box they held over 300 gallons

I do believe the smallest bulk size amount any packer will buy is 5 gallons and I think there is only one left that does, Bascoms. So I would first place a call to your buyer and ask before you spent any money on something they wont accept.

You waste too much syrup with the bags. You can't get it all out, not even close to all of it. Those bags are very popular around here, but for the purpose of hanging them on the trees for sap collection. They seem to work good for that.

I've actually had pretty good luck with bagging my syrup. As a hobbyist it's not very difficult but I would think the larger operations wouldn't want to deal with it. The value of the contents of a holed bag (i.e. loss) vs. the cost of a more sustantial container comes to mind. I bagged 5 gallons in used (cleaned) wine bags two years ago and nary a drop lost.
I let the syrup cool to about 180 degrees (coffee serving temperature) so it doesn't melt the bag. I also put the bags in a bucket to collect any loss from a holed bag, to keep it out of light, and to keep the errant rodent out, or cat that is looking to stretch it's claws. The wine bags also have a spigot so I can pour off and fill a glass container when I need to.
As to anything left in the bag, just a little water or sap added, shake and pour into next years boil.
