View Full Version : sap volume? gravity to vacuum

had a 1000 taps on gravity 15-20 on a run, switched to vacuum this year but didn't get to shortin runs yet.how much more sap do you guys think i should get next year if i can get runs down to 5-8 taps/line? 30%? vacuum runs at 15".any feed back would be great to figure storage and such for next year.thanks

Well this was a new install for my tubing this year so I cannot really compare it well. But I will say that on a good run I managed over 2 gallons a tap on woods trees where the ones nearby on buckets did half that. Being you have low vac I think you might be alot better off with the strive for 5 since the higher vac would get the sap out of the lines quicker. With all those taps on the laterals you have they were more than likely plugged full of sap on the good days and the vac never or very little of it reached the taps. You cna never have to much storage. Learned that the hardway too many years in a row.
