I've decided next year to pump out a holding tank that will be 300 feet from the road. I have a Honda 2" gas powered pump. What size hose should I use and what do you find as the most economical pipe or hose? Or in other words- cheapest.

I imagine black plastic water pipe would be least expensive. What size you use would depend on the gallons per hour the pump will move and how many gallons you have to pump.

1 inch black works for us . We pump 800 feet with a 100 foot rise and get 20 gallon a minute at the top. We also have a DAVEY fire pump with a 6.5 horse motor pushing it!

I use a Honda 1" pump and pump my sap 1500'. I use 1" black plastic water pipe to get it up the hill. It is about a 30' difference in elevation. It takes about 20 minutes to pump 100 gallons.

Russ - just curious - where do you place your pump? Up the hill ("pulling" the sap) or at the bottom ("pushing" the sap)? And what do you do wiht the sap that's left in the hose after you stop pumping?

Dan: We have a valve bypass that we use when we stop pumping so as to drain the line back into the tank by-passing the pump. The line holds 29 gallons of sap when full
Russ: how are things?

I put the pump at the bottom of the hill at the sap tank and push the sap up the hill. I drain the pipe back into two 35 gallons tanks that I tow behind my 4 wheeler. The pipe holds 60 gallons of sap. When the pipe is done draining I have a port on my releaser that I connect to the pipe to suck the rest of the sap out. I also put a check valve in at the tank end so that the head pressure won't damage the pump or hoses when I shut it off. I'm not sure if it is really needed though.

I have pumped 200 feet using 2 inch pipe and a 3 horse homelite pump. I could move 500 gallons in 20 minutes. worked well cheaper than plowing the road.

It makes all the difference in how much lift you have over the 300 ft. I pump 2500 ft with a total lift of 120' using a 3/4 high pressure pump, the same pump as my tubing washer. 10 gpm. Next year will be pumping 4000 ft with 170 ft of lift with a deep well pump.

THanks for all the info guys! WHere my vacuum and releaser are located, its very tough to get down there with my pickup and trailer without dong an awfull lot of snow plowing.

Ive been considering running a 1" black plastic pipe up to the sap house, but its nearly half a mile.

Any idea how much vacuum that leader hydrovac will produce?

what model high pressure pump? where can it be bought without buying a pressure washer to rob the pump from?
