i am thinking of adding more taps and a vacuum but i have a line with 20 on it already so for fust one lateral coulld there be more than 5 taps

you can put as many as you want... but the research shows that every tap added to a lat. reduces output per tap. the reduction is very little with 5 or less. it gets worse over 5. Proctor research facility has a very good write up about it. Dr Tim actually makes a living finding this stuff out. how cool is that, both for him and us! Thanks Doc. :D

Strive for five is the goal, reason being is more than that will fill the lines up with sap and not allow you to get max vac to the trees.

My take on it is that at the saddle fitting on the mainline the Lat will be "seeing" max vac. lets say 25"
So if you have 5 taps on that lat the vac is sort of divided up between those 5 taps. The more taps the more it must be divided up. So in simple terms each tap is "seeing" less vac.
The best would be to have 1 tap per lat, not very cost effective though.
I would try to at least split that lat into 2 if possible.
