What do we call ourselves?
If what we do is called "sugaring" or "sugarin'", are we
"sugarers"?
"sugarerists"?
My wife thinks what I do is called "syruping" (sigh....). I don't think we are "syrupists".
Any thoughts?

You can take this opportunity to coin a new name, give it a try. If we like it, the name might stick!

I prefer "sugarmakers". It rolls off the tongue nice and easy, just like "sugaring". Who wants to call it syruping, or sapping, mapling? Those are just much too difficult to get out.
I've also taken to referring to sap as "water". Its easier to say "check the water level in the back pan", than "check the sap level..." Maybe I've put too much thought into this-- too many long nights boiling water.

Syrup Density Engineers- would be abbreviated SDE...sounds too close to STD, the type of diseses you get if you visit the women of Sherbrooke too many times...

I do admit that most maple syrup words sound better in French. I just need a French girl friend to teach me how to properly pronounce them.

Remember, everything in Québec is more complex, we are "distinct", and this apply also on girls..

I guess with the gray hair, several burnt syrup pans, many gallons of syrup made and many late nights watching sap boil, I might be headed for the sugar master category but will remain as most of the previous posts prefer, just a SUGARMAKER.

Chris
