i just put up a new bush this year with 1/2" mainline for 110 taps and had right handy to $1000 bucks in materials. 800 ft mainline,2000 ft lats, tees, taps, star fittings, wire, ties ,tool. so my guess would be a buck per tap.

My first 120 taps cost around $10 per tap. The next 500 taps cost around $6 a tap. My next 200 on that line will run somewhere around $10 a tap since they are spread out. It all depends on how close your bush is spaced. Mine is not ideal but it isn't the worst I've seen so I would guess and average bush might be around $7 a tap. There are definitely some guys on here that have more experience that can chime in.

It really depends on the layout and what you need. Pumps, tanks, releasers, how long of a run, number of taps, mainline size, any ladders, This January I put in a few hundred tap bush on vac and it was just over 8 bucks a tap but I had the pump, the tank and built the releaser. Now I also suppose the more taps you run on a lateral the cheaper as well, The most I have on a lateral is 5 taps and thats only on 2. Saddles are not cheap. Heck anything maple other than a prefilter and a small bottle of defoamer aint cheap lol.

With the prices of fuel the wood might be cheap but getting it to the sugarhouse and cut up isnt. I think I will keep a better account for my latest vac setup Im will start in the next few weeks. Then again maybe I wont it will scare the heck out of me to see it all written down in next to a $ symbol with the decimal being way to far to the right.

It is actually cheaper to run more mainline then it is to run more 5/16ths. I know it doesn't sound right but it is true.

In most instances you are absolutly corrrect. Last year I had to make the decision on 5/16 vs 3/4 inch line - the 3/4 inch line was cheaper. It pays to sit down an crunch the numbers.
