Has anyone ever tried to use a remote thermometer at their drawoff box? I would like to have a display mounted somewhere in easy view so I can monitor syrupo temp no matter where I am in the sugarhouse. How about the turkey fryer thermometer in the link? I think I may give it a try. Its a 12" probe, which is the same as my Hanna thermometer.

Hues your onto something. Now go find one with an alarm on it when the temp reaches a set degree. Man it would save a few burnt pans.

3rdgen,
There was another one on ebay that came with a pager that sounded when a certain temp is reached. It wasnt on the turkey fryer kind though, it was a baking therm with a short probe

Very cool Now Im going online shopping. There are times when I would like to clean up around the outside of the sugarhouse and stuff but dont want to walk away for even a second anymore. I m picturing a big red siren and a loud horn on my sugarhouse now lol.

i use one for finishing and canning, it is handy, i can relax a bit instead of hovering over a pan, just glance once in a while and go into action when it finally gets close in temp, mine had to go to 220-221 to float the hydrometer at the right spot.

Walmart has one with about a 2 ft line to the probe .They are great as they have an alarm you can set to go off . only $15. We had one on the evaporator right next to the stem thermometer, it lasted about halfway through the season and died. It's great though having an alarm that you can preset. We would set it at 219 ,and then we could keep closer watch til it was time to draw off. We also use one in our coffee pot filter/bottler
