Hope for a good sap days on weekends when you have plenty of time but, the best day are during the week when I need to go to bed. I also use oil and it never fails to run out just as it is cranking.

the larger the glass jar the more likely it will break.
the bears come out when the sap runs late.
valuable oaks seem to shade more than short lived popples.

If you step outside for 30 seconds, that's exactly when the pans will foam over.

Sap never runs when you have time to boil it, but it sure runs well on the days you don't.

The biggest days of the year are always the ones when you helpers are away. (My 10 year old and I collected 125 gallons from 100 trees in deep snow the other week - all three older brothers had "places to be")

You'll run out of wood 10 gallons before you run out of sap.

How about that stupid hydrometer and the darn numbers always facing away from you no matter how many times you turn it.

The sap flows during the muddiest time of the year.

Lines only freeze when you dont have time to thaw them out.

There is only 40 gallons of water left and the syrup is at 56 brix

You never forget to close the drain valve on your bulk tanks when filling them with water
