Went to a local producer yesterday, pretty traditional. They tap over 2,000 buckets and then some pipeline. When I walked into the sugarhouse, I was blown away at the 6'x16' Leader evap...Now that is something to see!

Where as it. I went to a place a few years back just like you described. 2000 buckets and some pipe. They just put the 6x16 in the year before I seen it. The upper level of the barn was all holding tanks. I was actually a little shy about going in the barn as it had a nice little lean to it and in rough shape. onder if it was the same place.

6x16 was a common size for big producers, but advances in R.O. units and SteamAway units have resulted in a higher demand for smaller rigs. They're still a popular size, but as technology advances, I see fewer of them.

There were many sugarhouses that had more than one 6X16. there was one near me that had two of them and one was raised up higher than the other one. When he had a lot of sap he would run them both and the higher one would feed the lower one.
certainly a lot of pan to keep clean. That was before the day of RO's

What was the boil off rate of those 6x16 evaps.

6x16 with max pans and a steamaway and nearly 4000GPH worth of RO's making concentrate. 15K - 16K taps and it is just right.

I'm drooling at those numbers, until I think of all the work that has to be done before you get to the evaporator!
