Just trying to get a feel on how the season is going. Have not heard much about price or quantity made. Is this year better than last?

1400 gallons of sap last year in 11 day and done. Just under 40 gallons made.

way past that this year and into the 3rd week and no end in sight. If wood comes could be looking at 70 gallons. at 50 now. I would say its better

Last year I made 110 gallons but April 1 was my last boil.
So far, I'm at 47 gallons (after I boil up the sap I just picked up), but I'm optimistic I can beat last years total as it's still lots of snow and cold trees have barely started running. Typically, i make half my syrup in April up here in the Littleton NH area.

Way better, running like crazy yesterday, I was very done by this time last year. More taps in may case, but even the "old" original trees are pumping out way more than last year.

3 gallons syrup done this year vs. 2 last year. Will have close to another 120 gallons to boil today. Got close to 30 gallons from 30 taps yesterday ( record for this newbie ).

I would say this is a good year

Last year we made 23 gal on 230 taps, which was about average for us. This year we expanded to 557 taps so we were expecting twice as much syrup, about 50 gal. So far, we're at about 95 gal and things have been froze up hard for the last 2 weeks. They ran a little bit yesterday, might go get it and boil if I have enough. Forecast for the rest of the week looks good. 40 during the day, 28 at night. Not sure where we'll end up, but it's been a very good year.

I'm at a new place this year so I have no base for comparison but I've gotten some consistently good yields this year, as much as 12 gals one day off of 4 taps and have been getting about 50 Gals a week of sap since the first of March. Lots of nighttime dripping, too which I never saw on my old trees.

Considering what a stinker last year was for sap flow at the old place, I'd have to say the trees must be running a lot better this year than average. I'm glad I held off and didn't tap any more trees because I'm having problems keeping up with what we're getting. It looks like at least a week or two left in the season in our neck of the woods. Right now the snow is falling and the taps are running like faucets. Not complaining, mind you :)

Much better than last year. 4.5 gal/tap last year vs. 10 gal/tap so far this year.

much better this year. Gotta run to Leader tomorow and get some more bottles, have just enough to finish today using some old glass quarts. not a bad problem to have

This year is better even though the numbers are hard to figure.
Last year we got 2.5 gallons of syrup from 10 taps = 0.25 gal syrup /tap.

This year we started with 37 taps, but about 2 weeks ago lost 7 due to a river flooding. So... we currently have about 12 gallons of syrup from approximately 31 taps = 0.38 gal syrup/tap.

Last week was below freezing and everything stopped, this week we can't seem to empty the buckets fast enough.

Last year we made just over 2 gallons we are just shy of 3 gallons this year with a few more taps, with enough stored sap to get another gallon. The syrup has been a little darker but we are very happy with the results to date.

I thought last season was okay, but this one topped it. It's the most we've ever made, around 30 gallons, and we're pulling the taps this weekend. We have run out of wood, plastic jugs and energy, but it's been short and sweet. We still have about 250 gallons of sap to boil down, so it's not over yet, but the season is almost over for our little sugarhouse. The most important product, the fun has been harvested in huge amounts.

I am in the way better catagory too!!! last year I just touched 30 gallons...maybe...probably more like 26-27 gallons and got flooded out, wet wood floating all over the place!! just bad... had to dump water contaminated sap.

This year I just hit 48 gallons today and it looks like the end is near...running outta freezing nights and wood. and the red buds are getting quite big. but I will keep pushing until I run outta wood. sap is coming in slow and steady.

I did have a very fun season, especially this past week. BIG SAP and I finally kicked my cold that I had for the first 2 weeks of the season and my taxes are done!!!

volume wise i'm doing better than average. I'm over a 1/2 gal of syrup per tap. Gradewise I'm below average. In my area the best time usually is late Feb. I began tapping on 2/15 and my first boil was on 2-6. Those three weeks I lost hurt as far as making real light syrup.

Muuuuuuuuuuuuuch better!!!!!!!!!!!1Last year we contemplated not even bothering with this year,we only made 135 gallons from 975 taps, this year we are over 200 now,the woodpile will only last about another 25,but I am happy and tired.

Well based on the 10 day forecast, I'd have to say much worse. Sitting at 48 gallons with no freeze in sight for the next 10 days. Last year was slightly below average with 110 gallons. There's still hope though. My typical last boil is around april 15 here in the Littleton NH area. Just hope the weathermen are wrong.

Last year I made only about 3.5 gallons. This year I've already doubled that.

This year will be better than last year. We're just shy of last year's totals and still making medium! Now we just need to find somewhere to sell it...

things are now looking up for me. I'm now at 69 gallons which is almost 2/3 last year's total and there is still 18" of dense snow in the bush.

47 gallons on 93 taps....way better than last year. Planning to stretch my 2x4 into a 2x6 next year. Way too many hours boiling!

Way worse! last year, 25 taps made 7 gallons and finished april 2. This year went to 260 taps, collected 1140 gallons, finished 24.5 gallons. Must have just been me and a few friends around our area, because I think others near us did better.

I seem to be in a little pocket of "worse" as well. Looks like I'm done for the year and I only got 1/10 gallon of syrup per tap.

Can't complain though, last year it seemed like everyone else got majorly skunked, but somehow I managed to squeak out an "average" year. Funny how that goes...

Last year 130 taps, 12.5 gallons, done by March 17th.

This year 130 taps, 31 gallons from 1230 gallons of sap. There may be some more potential runs but my 3 cord of firewood has run out.

Overall its probably a slightly above average year here in mid coast Maine, but way better than 2010. Nearly 1 quart per tap, very close to 40:1 as well.

Sorry to those what had bad years. It's farming, what do you expect!

This is my first year boiling in our new location. When we moved here we were told our trees would yield 1 gallon of syrup per tree. We didn't tap until March 19th, which is 2 days after the biggest recorded flow in our parts. I've been averaging 30 gallons of sap per day from 33 taps. There have been a few day with no sap flow whatsoever. Yesterday was practically dry and I only harvested 12 gallons today. My fear is this is it. I'll wait and see what the next few warm days bring. So far we've made over 8gallons on the 33 taps. That's only half of what I was hoping for...got to pay for my Leader 1/2 Pint some how...but more than I've ever produced before.

Flat Lander,

I'm picky about the trees I tap. Don't have the time or boiler to tap them all, so I only tap the superstars! Next year I will bench some that were laggards this year, and tap some others that look juicy. It's like coaching a team!
