This is only my second season, but it seems like the weather is right to get tapping. Am I off base here or is this unusual weather right for tapping? It seems the weather in central MASS has been below freezing during the day and freezing at night. :?

Not sure about Mass but I am getting ready for a mid Feb start. I have tapped this early and had good success. Always a chance of having a cold snap like last year which can stop sap flow for days or weeks.
Someone always has to be first. Weather is the key. Warm days near 40 and dropping below freezing at night are ideal. We are all watching the long range forecasts.

Hi Mike, I'm in northern Virginia and my taps should have been last week with this weird weather. I'm going to tap my trees at the end of next week
if this weather hold. I would tap them this weekend but i'll be out of town.
If your weather is right, go for it!

I've tapped early before, it stops running when it gets cold but i've collected again after it warms again. Saps gonna run when it wants, your guess when. Collecting during winter thaw has helped me in the past. Good luck.
