After a normal desugaring, wash and final rinse, how long can an R/O and membrane sit before being used again? We've got a few really slow days here but we think the sap's going to run again so we want to keep everything set up and ready. Is it OK to let the R/O sit idle for a few days?

No problem if it was properly washed and rinsed

I don't know what the maximum amount of days would be for sitting idle before cleaning and adding the storage solution. However, a few days would not be a problem. Two or three days, sometimes a week, with no sap runs are very common.

The literature on my membranes say they should not sit unused for more than 24 hrs without adding perservative, but I don't know anybody following that recomendation.

We keep Permeate whenever the weather looks like it might throw us this curve ball and we RO it again. You don't need that much because you are using it over and over again sending both the "permeate" and the "concentrate" back to the feed tank. All you are looking to do is refreshen your membranes with new water. We do it at 5 days or so. I don't think we've ever gone 10 days without some sap.

Thanks to all of you for the notes.:) We got a CDL 600GPH this year and every time another aspect of the system comes up, I get a little nervous. Hopefully, the sap will run like crazy again so sitting idle won't be a problem.
