Is it just me, or is there a lot less Sugar Sand in the prefilters this year? Seems like usually there are gobs of it I let plop out of the prefilters before I start rinsing. This year, there's hardly any. (Not that I'm complaining)

We are getting lass sugar sand in the filters but the front pan and my finishing pan are needing to be cleaned more often. But we are pushing a lot more sap through this year than ever before.

I changed my front pan last night and was surprised at how clean it was even after making more than 122 gallons of syrup in it. Normally there would be a lot of build up to clean out.

I've been thinking there is less niter build up than usual in my front pan. Seems to clean up well each time I reverse.

I agree that the lack of sand this year is great. I've never seen it this good. The syrup is also the lightest color I've ever made. I didn't test the sap but I got about 11 gallons of syrup from about 400 gallons of sap with the first batch. Makes up a little for last year.

Lower down here this year. Haven't even had to open bypass valve on the filter press filtering this year.
