Wondering where the best place is to mount a stack thermometer?

Also, what temp should the stack be at for best evaporation?

I have a raised flue 3X10 with hoods, preheater and blower.

Are therm is about six ft , brad g boiling 101 natural draft 650-800 forced draft 800-1000 I try to run about 900 with forced draft . I fire every six min. Good luck

Don't forget that there is a very big difference between surface magnetic thermometers and the probe types. The probes measure actual gas temp more accurately. The surface types are way low.... Hundreds of degrees low and even more if you are outside in the wind.

To your question, for maximum evaporation rate run the stack temp as high as possible. For maximum fuel efficency lower the fire so only the very front part of your back pan boils.

The trick is to find the right combination of economy and productivity. Kind of like driving a car.

We use an eternal probe therm.

When we are boiling at max rate our probe temp at 24" up the stack is over 1600F

I also get best evaporation at stack temps of 1500 to 1700 degrees with thermometer mounted about 3' up stack.

Mine likes at least 1,700 degrees. I have tried to get it down but anything less and I start to lose that great boil I get. Last night it hit about 2,000 :o and that is when I lost the paint, lettering and numbers off the thermometer. I am getting 12 GPH off my 2X3 though so I'm not complaining. My whole base stack glows red. I will have to post some pics.
