burning coal

I have some coal can I burn it to make a hotter fire?

Make sure your grates and rig can take the extra heat....coal burns hot, real hot and unlike a wood fine, takes a long time to cool off.

i have used some soft coal this year...wouldn't recommend it with out a blower..i have an air tight with blower.......tried coal when i had the 2x6......it almost turned into a disaster.....but back then i didn't understand coal.......we have a case steam engine.and i have used coal in that.....and learned ow to burn coal...

I wouldn't try it unless you have a forced draft, especially if you're new to burning coal. There is an art to doing it correctly. We burned a bunch the other night and both doors on the arch were orange. :evil:

Ok, I don't understand coal. But I'd like to learn. I have a blower could I just add in a shovel full or 2 every now and again? Along with the normal load of pine. Just looking to experiment a bit.
