I for one would be very happy to hear how your collecting goes, as I have only had 1 lousy gallon from 40 trees in southern Bayfield co…Near Drummond:(
I'm with GramaCindy.....Just loading the truck for the weekend and eagerly awaiting what I hope to be some semi-sap-filled buckets! Southern Price Co. here

We have 37 taps and have been getting between 30-40 gallons of sap a day for almost 2 weeks. We boil each batch down to almost syrup, then freeze it for finishing at the end. Right now we have enough for about 5-6 gallons of syrup. We don't have the equipment to measure the sugar content beforehand, but with that much sap yielding that little syrup, the sugar content of the sap must be pretty low.
Temperature in the 50's for the last two days, didn't freeze last night, and should be in the 40's tomorrow also. Not sure what that's going to do to our season.
I'll be happy even if we only get 6 gallons of syrup because that's more than last year.

Went out to collect last night for the first time. We had 17 gal. out of 37 taps. Some trees ran o.k. while others did not run at all. I guess the trees are still wakeing up in the northwoods. Back out on Sunday and will post then. Good luck and have fun to my fellow syrup makers.
pulling the last of my taps today  central il though so hopefully you people up north still have some time yet.
1555 gal of sap for the season in 101 buckets

will be pulling taps on Sat.the 19th. I put in 20 taps last week fri. the 11th I have gotten to date 110 Gal. of sap. Will boil down what is left on Sat. and finish down and bottle and clean up on Sun. Then it's back to work on Mon. and wiat for March 2012:)
KJB, your season is seriously over? Lack of time or what? I can't believe the trees are budded out already on March 18th. Latitude-wise, we're not that much further north and here we're looking forward to our first collecting/cooking tomorrow! All the best to you, but it seems like it's way too soon for the fun to be over. 8-)

Went out last night (Wed). Collected 50 gallons. I need more storage space until i can cook this Saturday. Sap is starting to really flow. Also had a good friend of mine who wants to tap his maples just down the road. Hmmm I may need to build a "real" arch. Anybody have some good plans? Mike Z how about yours it looked really nice.
