Here is the situation. Suppose to be near 60 today and close to 70 tomorrow. Overnight lows in 40's. Saturday night low around freezing and then better sap weather next week. Sap flow right now is a trickle and I expect it to get worse as it warms up even more. Do I turn the pump off completely for a day or two or leave it on. We'll see if these Cvs give me some sap next week!

I figure leave it on, even a little sap flow will cool the holes and cut down on bacteria growth in the holes. Might not be true, but it's my best guess. This is a good one for Dr Tim.

I agree, I'd leave it running. I think the vacuum will tend to cool the tap holes and flush out the microbes that stop up a hole.

part of the bennefit to vacuum is it will get sap when there is no freezing nights. Keep it running
