Hood and Preheater Question?

Can you make a hood out of sheet metal or do most people make it out of stainless?
When people run copper through the preheter does anyone place a drip channel under the copper to collect condensation so it doesn't drop back in pan?

Mines made out of Aluminum sheet metal. I think, but I'm not entirely sure. Anyway pop riveted together, the pre heater is in a round sleeve open on one end. The other goes to the drip channel. I'm getting 150-175 degs out of the preheater. The old one was flat with 6 ft of copper the new one is round with 18 ft of copper, it was worth an additional 25 degs.
