I'm done here in Southern Illinois. I had out 45 taps on silver maples since mid Jauary and only finished 4-5 gallons. Last batch was darker than anything I ever made before. Strange thing was I probably got 0ver 50% of my sap from double taps on just three trees and, the rest were all pretty mediocre. Productivity usually seems more spread out than that.

That being said, I haul all my sap out of my timber by hand, and too much of a good thing wears me old bones out. Just not as much to give away to family and friends.

sorry to hear that HHolt
here in central il I have made over 20 gal so far (just about done)
and I have never made this much light syrup in my entire life. usually I get 3 or 4 gal that is light and then begins to darken. it still is not as dark as I like it. I am thinking the last run I will wait untill it gets cloudy to cook the darn tree goo hopeing for some as dark as I like it LOL
