cover for storage tank

I have a 230 CDL SS sap tank (from Bascom). It is open on top, no cover or lid. My question is do i cover it or keep it uncovered. I've heard that if it is uncovered the sap stays cooler... is this true?

if ur worried about stuff fallin in it , like general debris, make a cover. we made a frame then put window screen in the frame, then laid it on top of tank works good

I'd make a cover for it but have it set slightly above the tank so heat can escape and keep the sap cool.

Me too, I vote cover. It will not fit tightly enough to hold heat. Back when I used stock tanks I made a few covers. If the tank sets where the sun can get at it, get a 80 or 90% shade cloth from a greenhouse supply.

I think I'm going to leave it uncovered and build a screen cover for next season.

My vote is a screen cover. Uncovered you do get the loose stuff that can be filtered out but it's the hapless squirrel (red in my case) that falls in and can't get out (drowns/hypothermia eventually) that tends to be a pain. I've pulled at least 3 out over the last few years just out of my 5 gallon buckets on the trees.
